M1: Compare and contrast the use of different platforms
A platform is an area where consumers, producers and readers can learn information and can interface more efficiently. The main platforms that there are webpages, blogs, apps, CD/DVDs, kiosks, interactive TV, and mobile phones.
Webpage
Webpages are used by companies to give the audience more of an insight to their company and their products they may have, they give information on their buildings, company brands etc. This platform is used by companies to then grow their company from reaching a wider range of audience. Webpages give specific information to the audience, for example some webpages are interactive with questions to answer etc. On the other hand, there are webpages that people cannot be interactive with, this is s that people can get specific information and cannot edit it or ask questions about it. Some limitations that people can come across when accessing a webpage is that people can have slow internet connection meaning it can be difficult for people to access these pages, another limitation would be that when a producer wants to have a webpage online then they must keep paying for the website to be broadcasted and available for the public. However, some benefits of a webpage would be they are accessible to everyone that has access to the internet and that are also accessible on all diverse types of devices such as a mobile phone, computer, and tablet. Compared to a CD or DVD a web page has more information on it and can be accessed whenever it is needed to be if there is an internet connection.
Blogs
Blogs are a good method for people to ask other questions on a certain topic and to also put any comments on someone's post. However, these platforms are highly outdated, so few people use them despite them being particularly useful and accessible for people however some people then become trolls on people’s blogs making it difficult for people to use to platform for serious issues and benefits. Although, blogs have many benefits for producers and consumers, for example there is the benefit of managing to share the blogs with other people resulting in them being able to then add their own opinions and information on to the blog in the comment section, this is another benefit of a blog. Compared to an app and blog you can interact with, and people can ask their own questions and add comments to someone’s post.
Apps
The use of apps has increased throughout the years because of the development of technology, this means that people can access technology easier, and it is more developed allowing them to have more features and options on the devices. Although technology has developed massively some apps can take up a lot of storage space on someone's device meaning some people cannot download many apps from the storage space that some apps need. Another limitation that apps have is that certain phone brands cannot download certain apps on them, or they do not have the correct technology the app was made for, another limitation of apps is that apps need be frequently updated which can be highly time consumers and annoying for certain consumers. Some benefits of having an app are that people can access it on many different devices, and they are portable, meaning people can access it on the go if they have internet connection. Apps are also permanently on someone's phone unless they are manually deleted, it is easier for the consumers to use for they just must click on the app's icon to then access the content. Compared to a web page an app is more efficient to have for they stay on the user's device and can be more interactive for the user and I’d more accessible for they do not need to then remember the name of the web page.
CD/DVD
The us elf CDs and DVDs have decreased throughout the years for the development of technology has increased, this means that there are more digitally streamed videos than physical video being in the form of a DVD or CD. From this it means that there are many limitations for the products, for example the disk can be scratched meaning it than cannot be used, it is also rare for people to use DVDs and CDs for many of the more updated hardware like computer and laptops do not have a disk space to insert a disk because they are highly outdated materials. However, some benefits of using a DVD or CD are that they do not require people to download them meaning they do not need to use any data to watch the footage, another benefit would be that they contain specific information about a topic and are direct about it. Compared to an app a CD/DVD does not take up any storage space and does not require someone to have data to access the content.
Kiosks
Having a kiosk in a busy building is highly needed because people can get confused about where to go and what areas are contained in the facility. For example, there are kiosks located around an airport so that the costumers can then use them to find their way around the building. They however do have limitations for example they can be difficult for older people to use, and they may not like relying on technology to find there are for them and they are also expensive to have so to have many of the around a building can be very costly. On the hand they also have benefits due to them being fixed on the relevant information and are fixed so nobody can then use them for anything else except their purposes. Another benefit of a kiosk would be that they do not require internet connection or signal to work, this is useful for some areas in places like an airport may have bad signals. Compared to a web page a kiosk would be more useful for the users to use if they were at the location for it is more specific to locations if they were looking for it.
Interactive TV
Interactive TVs are used by many companies for different purposes, the main purpose of an interactive TV is to then provide an engaging experience for the audience on a big screen. On the other hand, there are limitations on the interactive TVs is that they are expensive to have and if they ever need repairing or fixing then it is an expensive bill to pay. A benefit that comes with having an interactive TV is that they are guaranteed to have content on a big screen, which is then easier to see for a video range of audience. Compared to having a CD or DVD and interactive TV, it is more efficient for the interactive TV can access more content and be able to interact with the content and not just play the video.
Mobile phones
Mobile phones are used by most of the population, they are more common to be seen and used by people for many varied reasons such as communication, business, and entertainment. During the use of mobile phones people can have limitations on them for example they can run out of charge fast if they are used frequently, some mobile phones are also expensive to use and obtain and can be confusing for the older generations to understand. However, some benefits of. having. mobile phone is that they are portable, and everyone has one meaning people can then contact others with a mobile phone more efficiently. Compared to a kiosk, mobile phones are a lot more accessible and useful for the public to use and have for they are more accessible and portable to have.
